Provide information about the counselling process and how it works. Instill a sense of hope or you(cid:859)ll (cid:374)e(cid:448)er pro(cid:271)a(cid:271)ly see that (cid:272)lie(cid:374)t agai(cid:374) Integrative process that combines a variety of information into a meaningful pattern reflecting an individual: never leads from a single measure, or one dimension. To be meaningful, must attempt to understand an individual from as many different perspectives as possible. Risk factors: demographic info, presenting problems, prior emotional difficulties, current life situation, ethnic, cultural, religious & socioeconomic info. Family background: developmental history, career/educational history, medical problems (if relevant, health related behaviours, anything else the client might consider important information, using open ended questioning to get background, use of questionnaires & checklist.
