View of humans as faulty information- processing devices. Perception errors seen as result of limited processing capacity. People often forced to make decisions that are quick and easy (often wrong), rather than ones that are time- consuming and onerous (more often right) Attributional errors, due to a lack of mental resources which would enable a consideration of all factors involved. When people perceive there to be a correlation between a classification and a dimension of judgment they will (a) exaggerate the differences between the classes on that dimension and (b) minimise the differences within the classes on that dimension. Tajfel argued that these accentuation effects could be responsible for some of the commonly observed features of stereotypes: their extremity and their homogeneity.
