Churning and movement of food through the gi tract. Alternating contractions/relaxations of smooth muscle in the walls of the gi tract mix food & secretions and move them towards the anus. Through swallowing & peristalsis involuntary alternate waves of smooth muscle contraction and relaxation in the. Gi tract to squeeze" food along the tract.
