Document Summary

Hbs204 week 7 the endocrine system. The endocrine system is a major control system in the body, it consists of endocrine glands that secrete hormones into the blood. Endocrine glands secrete chemical messengers called hormones, which exert physiological effects at very low concentrations. The endocrine system is important for supporting metabolism, regulating the internal environment (e. g. water balance or controlling the concentration of ions in the body), it"s important for reproduction, growth and development. There would be many receptors on the cell surface for a particular hormone and in some cases the receptors are found inside the cell. The hormone travels in the circulation to target cells, it binds to target cell receptors and initiates a biological response, if a cell has no hormone receptors, it cannot respond to the hormone. Cell b and c are not target cells because they don"t bind to the hormone and there"s no response to the hormone.
