What is a business process?
- A structured network of activities, recourses, facilities, info that interact to accomplish
some business function
- A business process is a system.
Business systems are integrated processes
- Inventory management
- Manufacturing
- Sales and support
- HRM
Q3: Components of a business process
- Facility: Inventory
- Activities: Transform resources into info of type into another type e.g. purchasing,
payment, stocks
- Decisions: Yes or no questions
- Roles: Sets of procedures
Q4: What is info?
- Knowledge derived from data
- Data processed and presented into context
DATA → PROCESS → INFO
Difference between data and info
▪ DATA: Raw material. Needs to be processed before turning into info
▪ INFO: Data that has been processed
Characteristics of Good Info
▪ Accurate
- Correct and complete
- Crucial for management
▪ Timely
- Produced in time for intended use
▪ Relevant
- Context and subject
▪ Just barely sufficient
- Not too much info
▪ Worth its cost
