Week 7 essay writing: no slang, no contractions, be objective: avoid emotive words, and be more precise. Introductions will present the main arguments and the outline of the essay: everything should be very clear from the beginning (bar evidence, supported arguments use published, peer-reviewed research information skilfully and accurately. Logical development of ideas: aim for clarity and precision, makes claims carefully: "indicates", "demonstrates, "suggests" The question: analyse the key words of the question! "discuss": not freeform conversational discussion - still requires an argument. Thesis statement: i will argue this in these three poems. Thus this is the significance of that: set the scene, discuss the historical context if necessary early on in the first paragraph. Becomes more specific here - goes from abstract to specific throughout the body of the essay. Analyisis: explains and interprets the facts, and then synthesises them to develop a new point of view.
