Formation of coal: two main periods of peat formation in earth"s history since 450 ma (appearance of land plants), carboniferous to permian (350 -250 ma, cretaceous (140 -65 ma) Components of an oil deposit: reservoir rock -porous, usually sandstone, trap-structural, stratigraphic, or combination -concentrates hydrocarbons (hcs)
