Psychosocial Health
What is it?
as a state of mental, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. The thinking
portion of psychosocial health is known as mental health.
Empathy: the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.
Sympathy: feelings of pity and sorrow for someone else's misfortune.

There are two factors that are important to social health.
• Presence of social bonds or social linkages.
• Presence of key social supportsexpressive or tangible.

Refers to a belief in some unifying force that gives meaning to life
A sense of belonging to something that is greater than purely physical or personal
dimensions
Often something will trigger the search for the meaning of the proverbial question:

Mental, neurological and behavioural disorders are common to all countries and
cause immense suffering.
Often subjected to social isolation, poor quality of life and increased mortality. These
disorders are the cause of staggering economic and social costs.
WHO:
Mental illnesses affect and are affected by chronic conditions such as cancer, heart
and cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and HIV/AIDS.
Untreated, they bring about unhealthy behaviour, non-compliance with prescribed
medical regimens, diminished immune functioning, and poor prognosis.

Tense, feeling angry, anxious – normal emotions
BUT when feelings persist for long periods of time than they may be part of mental health
problems
Influences the way you think, your ability to function in everyday activities
School, or work or relationships
Can have trouble concentrating, distressing/bizarre thoughts, risky behaviours you would
usually avoid, things aren’t quite right.
