Document Summary
Destruction can only follow prior constructions (cherryholmes, p. 73) A text has no intrinsic meaning, truth can"t be established through a faithful or authentic reading but we can gain insight into how texts function, most importantly how they make meaning. Texts and textual practices: school and teaching practices can be treated as texts that can be deconstructed in order to uncover different and sometimes hidden meanings; and in order to show how they actively produce meaning. They value and seek to understand knowledge that children bring to school: over time they assemble repertoires of theoretically informed practices which they continually rework & modify. Funds of knowledge refers to historically accumulated and culturally developed bodies of knowledge and skills essential for household or individual functioning and wellbeing, it may include: Agriculture and mining: ranching and farming, horse riding skills, animal management, soil and irrigation systems, crop painting, hunting, tracking and dressing, mining, timbering, materials, blasting, equipment operation & maintenance.
