One year later, early on a sunday morning mrs. jones is taken by ambulance to the accident and emergency department with chest pain. The pain, which commenced about 8 hours ago, was described as severe intermittent retrosternal pain and was referred to the left shoulder. The pain had an acute onset, became progressively worse and increasingly crushing in nature. The patient reported no symptoms suggestive of a preceding viral illness. Refers to death (necrosis) of a portion of the myocardium resulting from an occluded/blocked coronary artery. In 2007, half of all chd deaths (11,353) had ami recorded as the underlying cause of death. In 2007-08, there were 161,417 hospitalizations for chd, of which 34. 7% had a principal diagnosis of ami and 24% of ua. In addition, there were 115,684 hospitalizations with a principal diagnosis of chest pain". Clot big enough, blocks blood entirely and tissue beyond the clot will die if not restored.
