Need to have two cue words
- Grounding techniques
oUseful when:
Anxiety
Panic
Dissociation
Stressed and busy
Don’t only use them for psychiatric presentations- we all use
them, and can use them all the time
Even: taking a deep breath and focusing
An ‘oh well’ moment
Whatever you and your client use to find your centre
oCommon mistake
Doesn’t happen instantly
From up regulating to down regulating
You can have some changes/reductions, but there is still
adrenaline in your system
Need to tell client- its not an instantaneous fix
oSimple techniques:
Find one area for your client to start to ground with
Stamping feet
Pushing feet down really hard on the floor
Transferable across contexts
Give the multiple grounding ones
Don’t need to be a huge toolkit
