Document Summary

Measures of central location: measures of central tendency yield information about the centre, or middle part, of a group of numbers. The most familiar measure is the arithmetic mean, which is most commonly referred to as the average: for example, suppose we run a company with ten salespeople. We can record the number of sales for each person in each week. Then one way to describe the ten salespeople is by determining the average number of sales per week for each person. Measure of shape: distributions of actual data can assume any shape or form; and we can determine the shape of the distribution by comparing the measures of central location. The distribution having a pronounced tail" on one side or the other are said to be skewed. Measures of variability: while measures of central tendency are used to estimate.
