Document Summary
Organisation of the human body : there are two types regions in the body, axial = head, neck, trunk 2. Appendicular = limbs: body cavities are any fluid filled space within the body whose function is protect internal organs and allow them to move and expand as necessary without friction. Two major cavities in the axial region are: dorsal (brain & spinal cord = most important, ventral (all the rest, each body cavity is comprised of a bony layer, serous membrane and the visceral organ. Dorsal cavities: cranial cavity located in the skull. Protects the brain: vertebral/spinal protects spinal cord, dorsal cavities are continuous, they contain cerebrospinal fluid (csf, the membrane is 3 layers thick for extra protections (including the meninges which is the protective membrane of the brain) Mediastinum (in the middle of the two pleural cavities no serous membrane protects the great vessels, oesophagus and trachea) and also has the pericardial.
