PHYL2001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Bile Canaliculus, Bile Acid, Portal Vein
Document Summary
Chyme then meets enzymes and bile salts from pancreatic and biliary systems which digests food. Absorption of fat: digestion: role of bile, absorption & transport from intestine. Absorption of carbohydrates: luminal digestion, surface digestion, absorption. Absorption of proteins: digestion, absorption of peptides and amino acids. Other major duodenal secretion is bile from the liver. Contains bile acids/salts aid in fat digestion and absorption. Secreted to bile duct and stored in gall bladder for release. Cck builds up, gall bladder contraction and bile comes into duodenum, can be some direct transfer. Blood vessel, full of bile salts recycled or taken up at ileum. Absorbed taken up by hepatocyte, duct system designed to give back to bile duct. Hepatocytes absorbing bile salts and deliver to bile canaliculi, stored in gall bladder. As whole, duodenum is entry point, help with fat digestion, most digestion occurred. Take up bile salts and recycled, 95% Make 5% new bile salts every new cycle.
