Elbow and shoulder > provide support and mobility to the arm. Motor cortex (left hemisphere controls body"s right side) > output. Occurs in a proximodistal direction > brain gains control of closest to it rst, biggest muscle group closer to the midline. Easier to gain control of bigger muscle group then smaller muscle group. 4 months can reach and grasp independently using two hands (starts with bimanual movement) 4-6 months inhibitory information developing (unimanual movements) 6 months reach and grasp using on hand. 7-9 months learning to isolate ngers (intrinsic control) 15 months - manipulates objects while standing. 18 months can orientate objects (spoon feed, drinking out of a cup, scribble with crayon)
