HLSC 1F90 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Attributable Risk
Document Summary
Priority of health is ability to change disease frequency and severity and disease severity. Dictionary epidemiology study of the determinants (factors that contribute to illness) and distribution(spread of people) of health- related states in specified populations, and the application of this study to control of health problems . Cohort(s): specific population of people that we are interested in following. The determinants of disease: risk factor, predictor, cause, and agent. Different agents, risk factors, etc contribute to illness. Determinant of heart/disease could be hereditary, diet, life-style. Components of distribution: less income=greater tendency to be ill, when are people getting a disease, and where do people get ill. Public health: help people so they do not become a case of illness, change frequency of illness. Sporadic events: nothing to really be concerned about, once it becomes more and more severe it becomes endemic or epidemic/pandemic. Endemic: condition that persists in a specific cohort or geographical region.
