Document Summary
In the previous two chapters, we looked at inferences regarding a single population parameter. We could find confidence intervals and conduct hypothesis tests regarding a: In chapter 11, we now modify the inferential methods of the previous chapters, to allow us to compare two population parameters. Scenario 1: imagine a cream, that when applied to a bald head, would make hair grow back completely. To see which prototype of cream is more efficient, researchers applied one hair growth prototype to half of a bald man"s head, and another prototype to the other half. It is dependent sampling since the growth rates are (cid:373)paired data(cid:374) Scenario 2: imagine the same type of hair growth cream. Except now, to test the two prototypes, the first prototype is tested on 30 random bald men and the second prototype is tested on 30 other random bald men. Independent sampling since the first data set doesn"t affect seconds.
