Anthropology: the way of life of a people. All cultural knowledge a person has in order to live in that society. How to use the language, drive a car, how to access healthcare system. Humanities: high culture- the best that has been thought and known . Focused on what we tend to call high culture . High culture elements (arts such as opera, fine arts such as ballet, symphony orchestras, fine painting, theatre/shakesperean theatre) High culture: the best that has been known and thought by humans. Opposite of high culture= low culture/popular culture (rock, music that is not operatic, film, youtube videos) Culture is very narrowly defined by these elements. Sociology of culture/cultural sociology: convergence of these two extremes. Symbol systems: represent thinking, feeling, behaviour (ex: language, art, music, dance) all expressive aspects of life and culture, communicate meaning to people.
