These slides were covered in the second part of this lecture, after the completion of the eros lecture. Apollo god of prophecy, music, medicine, and the sun. Descent of apollo (and artemis: coeus (god of intelligence and foresight) + phoebe (goddess of prophecy and moon) = grandparents, leto + zeus = parents, artemis = sister, apollo and artemis inherit traits from their grandparents. Apollo loves delos: this barren island burst forth with flowers after he was born, he promised delos great wealth later in greek history, delos becomes a massive treasury. Apollo sets up his main oracle: he finds telephusa (a popular stream) and was going to make this is his temple place. Telephusa warned him that there"s going to be a lot of unwanted traffic near the stream, so he should go up the hill to mt parnassus where it is quieter.
