Police today: there is about 70,000 officers across canada. The ratio here is lower than other countries: the number of female officers has increased, in general about 1 in 5 officers are women. Relied on by municipalities to do their policing: municipal. Some municipalities have their own police forces (ottawa and toronto): first nations. Rcmp: the rcmp operate under the umbrella underneath the department of public safety, federal, the department of public safety and emergency preparedness. Includes the rcmp, csis, border services: provincial, the ministry of community safety and correctional services, oversees the ontario provincial police, and policing in ontario. They also oversee firefighters: all rcmp recruits are trained in regina, saskatchewan, not all rcmp recruits are going to get hired by the rcmp. Some people can go through the training but not actually get a job: different from ontario, police in ottawa first get hired, and then get sent for training.
