Social & emotional: relationships with other people, changes in emotions and personality. Pattern of change in human capabilities that begins at conception and continues throughout the life span. (growth and decline) It involves physical development, cognitive development, and social and emotional development. Early-experiences doctrine: early development is crucial; our self or our personality is largely determined and it is set . It creates the way we understand the world. It"s the fundamental person of who we are. Later-experiences doctrine: we care changeable, based on experience in our lifespan. Early experience does not dictate how we will be for the rest of our lives. Germinal period (1 & 2 weeks): from conception until zygote attaches to the uterine wall. Embryonic period (3-8 week) cells are dividing and organs develop in a rudimentary form.
