Nowadays, employers provide high quality childcare to attract a skilled labor force. Non-maternal care of children is usually portrayed as unnatural however in most cultures children have been cared for by someone other than the mother, at least for some time. The most important factor in understanding the impact of childcare is actually the quality of care which children receive. High quality childcare means a small number of children per caregiver. In high quality childcare, children"s cognitive and language development is improved. This is especially beneficial for children from low income families. Sometimes parents rely on multiple sources of care. If children receive multiple sources of low quality care, this will be very bad for them. However, multiple childcare can be good if the providers are of high quality. Nowadays children participate in many after-school activities. Most children participate in activities which they actually enjoy.
