Deviance doesn"t only apply to bad people per say, geniuses are considered as deviant because they deviate from the norm. Street checks (carded) is when police pull you over and collect data on you without your knowledge. People that have been carded are non-convicted offenders. Deviance test rules and they may break them to evaluate their validity (women walks down the street in her bra) Deviance reduces tension and promotes group solidarity, the more extreme the deviance the more solidarity in the group. Boundary maintained is the line in the sand that you are willing accept. Scapegoats is a universal phenomenon that someone is blamed on. Deviance acts as an early warning system, we problems are happening and we can take preemptive actions. Protection of vested interests: people who work in justice system owe their jobs to crime. There is a relationship for prison, police and courts; they are paid by crime.
