EET-123 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Slew Rate, Logic Level, Operational Amplifier
Document Summary
The comparator is a device that compares two analog input signals and produces a digital or a logic level output based on that comparison. Comparator design methods: op-amp in open-loop configuration. May not deliver optimum performance for high speed applications: linear comparator ic. There are two types of comparators: non-inverting comparator. Comparator with reference voltage on the inverting input: inverting comparator. Comparator with reference voltage on the non-inverting input. What is vout for vin of 6v with. Vin of 6v is less than vref of 6. 4 v. therefore, the output is saturated at negative saturation voltage. Hysteresis is incorporated by adding regenerative (positive) feedback, which creates two switching points: the upper trigger point (utp) and the lower trigger point (ltp). After one trigger point is crossed, it becomes inactive and the other one becomes active. Op-amp comparators will probably not deliver the optimum performance. Op-amps are usually too slow for comparator switching operations.
