EET-226 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Distribution Board, Switchgear, Overcurrent
Document Summary
The supply intake position on any premises is a matter between the electrician and the supply authority because that position must be convenient so that the cost of supply equipment is kept to a minimum. For small installation in towns and cities cables are usually two-core, pvc-insulated and provided with sheathing, steel-wire armouring and seamed with a protective covering of black pvc. This cable is joined to two of the main cable cores. Connections are either soldered or using the cable tee-joint or by crimping. In rural areas with overhead line distribution the house service cables are connected to the line conductors by means of mechanical connectors called line taps. in addition to supplying appropriate equipment single-phase 230 v loads such as lighting. The consumer"s main switch must be of the double- pole linked blade type which will isolate the complete installation from the supply.
