EET-226 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Induction Motor, Rotor, Ac Motor
Document Summary
Single-phase induction motors are used mostly to operate home appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, pumps, and fans. They are designed to operate on 120 v or 240 v. They range in capacity from fractional horsepower to several horsepower depending on the application. For example - a flux, can be resolved into two components. Each of these components rotates in opposite direction i. e if one / 2 is rotating in clockwise direction then the other / 2 rotates in anticlockwise direction. When a single-phase ac supply is given to the stator winding of single-phase induction motor, it produces its flux of magnitude, . According to the double field revolving theory, this alternating flux, is divided into two components of magnitude /2. Each of these components will rotate at same speed and in opposite direction. The resultant of these two component of flux at any instant of time, gives the value of instantaneous stator flux at that instant.
