MARK 492 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Egalitarianism, Embeddedness, Social Anthropology
Document Summary
We need a framework /model for categorizing , measuring and comparing. Analyzing a society"s values provides a way to understand many coherent patterns in how a society deals with basic social problems: kluckhohn and strodtbeck a value based model from social anthropology. In year 1961 kluckhohn & strodtbeck define value orientation as being complex principles resulting from the interaction of cognitive, affective, directive. A high preference for one assumption does not necessarily imply a low preference for the other two assumptions in the same value orientation. All preferences can be represented in a society, but with a rank order of the preferred alternatives. Very few management studies have directly used it. Instead, its important insights about basic societal issues have been incorporated into other frameworks. Hofstede was one of the first researchers to analyze the influence of national culture on management practices.
