Inflammation with little or no necrosis, edema: acute, spreading infectious process affecting epidermis and dermis, fever, chills, leukocytosis, bacteremia up to 30% of cases, complications: abscess and osteomyelitis, staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus pyogenes (group a streptococcus) Wound and soft tissue infections: surgical wounds, traumatic wounds, animal bites, burns, cellulitis / fasciitis / toxic shock syndrome, clostridial myonecrosis (gangrene) Myonecrosis or gangrene is typically associated with clostridia, particularly clostridium perfringen.
