Anthro 1032: introduction to biological anthropology and archaeology. In anthropology, this involves: anthropological archaeology. The study of material remains and cultural features in order to reconstruct the daily life and customs of people who lived in the past and to trace and explain cultural change: physical anthropology. Paleoanthropology the interdisciplinary approach to the study of earlier hominins their chronology, physical structures, archaeological remains, habitats, etc. Anthropological archaeologists and physical anthropologists work collaboratively. We study many different lines of evidence at a site (cultural, biological) Multiple lines of evidence reveal patterned behaviour interpretable data pictures of the past. Common (mis-) perceptions of archaeology fall into two, usually very false, stereotypes: fossils of humans or dinosaurs, indiana jones and lara croft, anthropology and palaeontology not the same thing. Most archaeology concerned with relatively unexciting material remains. Accumulations of such data provide considerable insight into past human cultures.
