PHED-2526EL Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Tennis Elbow, Synovial Sheath, Human Musculoskeletal System
Document Summary
Musculoskeletal disorders account for a large proportion of injuries in workplace. In recent years, msd has accounted for 45% of all workplace related injuries and roughly 60% of costs. When injuries are classified as overexertion again accounts for roughly half of all injuries. Musculoskeletal injuries or disorders affect the musculoskeletal system, includes muscles, joints and bones. Disorders affecting nerves are involved with, or in close proximity to, components of the system. Goal of epidemiology is to identify factors that have a relationship to the development or reoccurrence of these disorders. Casual relationships between physical work factors and msds. Module 3. 2 msds: tissues, types and injury mechanisms. Tissues: back injuries involve a combination of tissues including muscle, bone and nerves. Types of disorders: muscle and tendon injuries. Epicondylitis inflammation of the tendons: fibres may fray or tear; overuse of tendon can result in fluid loss from the sheath leading to increased friction and inflammation.
