Pyruvate enters the citric acid cycle as the diacetylacetyl (ac) group on acetyl coa in the first stage of the citric acid cycle: conversion from pyruvate to ac-coa is multi-step process. Oxidation reaction in which nad+ acts as an oxidative agent and becomes reduced into nadh. Transfer of acetyl onto coa (coenzyme a) The first step of the citric cycle: pyruvate to acetyl coa. Carried out by the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex: on the electron micrograph, the 50 nm rosettes that can be seen in the picture.
