ANAT 321 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Rhodopsin, Visual Cortex, Neurotransmitter
Document Summary
Choroid= back middle layer dark pigmented cells to absorb/minimize light bouncing around in eye. Retina = 10 layers stained transparent cells & darker stain for nuclei/cell bodies. Layers of retina inner to outer = photoreceptors [back] to ganglion cells [front] *2-9 = neurons except 10 = epithelial cells. 1- inner limiting membrane non-cellular = no cells membrane separate retina from fluid inside eye. Axons of retinal ganglion cells leaving retina to head up to brain. Synapses between bipolar cells & retinal ganglion cells. Cell bodies of bipolar & horizontal & amacrine cells. Cell bodies of photo receptors extend to outer & inner segments. 8- outer limiting membrane non-cellular = no cells just tight junctions- only seen when stained. Parts of photoreceptors cells = that actually absorb light. Epithelial cells pigmented - not neuronal so not directly involved in. More photoreceptors [10x] & less retinal ganglion cells. Input from many photoreceptors = not directly relayed.
