Agrees to consummate love and is gifted prophecy. Is able to foresee the future of her own accord. Apollo spits in her mouth, so she can still foresee the future but is not believed. During an athletics practice, apollo accidently kills him. Daphne: most famous; symbol of laurel leaf, greek daphne. Beautiful nymph and daughter of peneus (personified river) who wishes to remain virgin. Apollo mocks eros/cupid in olympus who shoots his gold and lead pointed arrows. Apollo: enflamed with love, lust, and longing. Daphne: dislike and distrust of men is magnified. Apollo pursues daphne who flees from him. Prays to peneus to take away her beauty. Her shape is changed into that of a laurel tree. She is willing to consummate their union and becomes pregnant.
