Extended family, ancestral family: all generations from first ancestor on. Our family descends from a first ancestor who was so and so. This first ancestor was said to have a virtue: something that made him special. It is the obligation of the descendants to transmit the first ancestor"s virtue. Perhaps he was a good scholar; his scholarship was his virtue. His family members, thus, must all be scholars. Great warrior could be another virtue - transmit it to succeeding lineages. The ancestral family: first ancestor, virtue and lineage, family and the five relationships (three imbedded in family)
