Industrializaion, mechanisaion, scieniic management: large scale move to wage labour and urbanizaion, 1902: us urban > rural, deskilling and replaceable workers. Boom and bust period is diicult: increasing managerial hierarchy, radical uncertainty of economy, yearly wages rose between 1860 and 1890, but so did layofs, industrial accidents lack of safety regulaions and enforcement in workplace, mining, railroads. Gold : but wealth was not distributed evenly, the reality is more grim. 1889: 70% naion"s wealth belonged to 1/300th of us populaion. Nyc"s slums: mortality rate 80% higher than naional average: where you live is very crucial.
