Milosevic stages coup, takes control of serbian communist party, media. Spreads influence using nationalist propaganda, comes to control half the units of the federation. Ethnicity redefined in accordance with political views. Slovenes propose reforms, serbs harass them, they walk out. Serbs want to continue without slovenes, but others refuse. Conservatives will need to get rid of slovenia and croatia if they want to centralize. Nationalist groups started as fringe in yugoslavia. Serbia unilaterally takes control of national bank, withdraws half of funds. Slovenia holds vote on independence, 9/10 say yet. Tudjman and milosevic conspire against markovic, agree to divide bosnia between themselves, but can"t decide on how. Yugoslav army essentially becomes serb, non-serbs largely desert. Macedonia and bosnia and herzegovina decide on independence. Concentration camps, mass rapte, torture, elimination of muslim intellegentisia.
