Master of the art of orchestration, wrote one of the first treatises (textbook) on the subject. One of the first real masters of the art of orchestration: how to write effectively for instruments, highlights the characteristics of an instrument. One of the first baton-wielding conductors, wrote a treatise about that too. Some people thought his music was a little too modern controversial: cacophony nature. I: r veries, passions loosely based on sonata form. Theme 1 is the id e fixe: chromaticism, rubato, continually gets higher and higher, copious performing directions id e fixe appears transformed in the coda recalling depressive love returns to tenderness, agitated and passionate. Melody is continuous and gets higher and higher, chromaticism allegro, lots of rubato. Ii: un bal dance movement in ternary (aba) form. Iii: sc ne aux champs begins with two woodwinds lover comes back, feelings of deception slow movement pastoral english horn and oboe duet id e fixe returns with agitated string interruptions.
