Theorizing conflict and co-operation in world politics - lecture. State-centrism what is a (cid:862) tate(cid:863): modern statehood territorialiality + sovereignty = exclusive right to govern a territory. Absolute right: dimension of statehood: internal de facto control/capacity > legitimacy. Levels of analysis the three images of ir theorizing. Individual decision makers: human nature, psychological constraints on rationality, groupthink, cognitive process: domestic institutions (state): political regime, political culture. International system (systemic): organization of authority (anarchy vs. hierarchy), power relations. World politics as rational behaviour: consider all possible strategies, rank-order outcomes, select best strategy.
