Mothers working outside of the family hurts kids. Overburdening of women: women working outside the home still do most of the housework, childcare. Females have a purpose (housework) and they should follow that purpose. There would be less distress for women if they just stayed at home. Cohabitation: limits the sanctity of marriage, limits long-term unions, promotes instability. Studies also find that cohabiting partners are more likely to suffer spousal abuse and separate than married partners. Gay parents: functionalists are likely to claim it promotes improper socialization, causes mental trauma. Because they need gendered perspectives from the two sexes. Most sociologists agree with the functionalist view that the present situation of the family is in flux and has some negative effects. Disagreement despite this, most sociologists view functionalist conclusions as misguided, incorrect, and overly conservative. In fact, these days, the nuclear family is declining. We can go as far as saying that it is quite rare nowadays.
