Contribution of anthropology: investigate local situations in relation to global issues, holistic approach, and put findings into a larger context, models of sustainability. What do we mean by sex: biological differences between males and females, xx = female, xy = male, there are rare exceptions, xxy, xxx, etc. Sex characteristics: primary sex characteristics, like reproductive organs, secondary sex characteristics, like breasts, height, menses, skeletal characteristics do typically vary between sexes, skeletal characteristics do typically vary between sexes. Sexual dimorphism: differences are on a continuum, and they overlap, with plenty of overlap between extremes, genitals are made of the same 4 tissues, but just form into different shapes. Some intersex conditions: aphalia - lack of a phallus, clitoromegaly - enlarged clitoris, hypospadia - urethra on the penis, closer to where it would be on the vagina, hermaphroditism, kleinfelter"s syndrome - a chromosomal condition, xxy, male genitalia.
