Modern western idea, acts as metaphor of how these principles of modernity work! You have high up circular guard tower, the prison itself is a circle (you have rows and rows of prison cells, people are encouraged to keep lights on, shatterproof glass walls) ! Operates on principle of hyper visuality ! Knowing you are constantly being watched makes it dif cult to commit particular offences ! Also operates in insidious ways; one through urban restructuring ! Wide boulevard in downtown paris,3-4 lanes of traf c! On side you have well-lit side walks !
