Giotto scrovengni chapel 1305-1306 early 14th century aka giotto di bondone. What do you see: barrel vaulted chapel (small scale religious space) that has an arched shaped top, which is the barrel vault (ceiling of chapel) that is painted to look like a star-filled blue sky. The side walls of the chapel have paintings that are telling a story. Scrovegni"s substantial home that was just outside of padua. Today, the chapel is all that remains after the home was destroyed in the early 19th century. There was a city-wide campaign to preserve the chapel which was in need of restoration. The people of the community recognize the chapel"s importance. You can also see how each painting relates to each other. What techniques were used to make the work? (how the artist represents the material, and art supplies: wanted the scenes to look real, and for the viewer to look involved in the scenes.
