Document Summary
The end of wwii dramatically accelerated the long-term process of globalization. Aspects of globalization: economic integration that the world should be transformed into one large market with the same rules and regulations applied across the world, growth of large transnational and multinational economic actors. Google is far more powerful that at least half of the countries in the world in terms of influence: transmission of knowledge spreads much quicker. Bodies like the un, eu, g7, g8, or trade agreements: physical relocation and dislocation of biological matter. Significant because it means people, but also things like disease, animals, plants, food, etc. Many suggest that globalization has facilitated a new form of colonialism. When colonialism ended about after wwii, people expected independence for once- colonized countries would yield progress. Inequality between many colonial states and first world has grown since independence, as has economic inequality within colonial states: ex. Sierra leone is poorer now than when colonized.
