Document Summary
Dna in eukaryotes and prokaryotes are the same (adenine, guanine, cytosine and thymine) Genes are sections of the dna molecule which contain information that is then transcribed into an rna copy. The central dogma:the process of interpreting genes into proteins. Dna will specify the sequence of bases in an rna molecule, which specifies the amino acids in a protein. Rna is the same as the nontemplate strand (complimentary to dna) but it has u instead of t. Rna polymerase attaches to promoter regions for rna to be transcribed. Rna attaches 5" relative to the gene of interest. 5" = 5" phosphate 3" = 3" oh group. Polymerase will move in 3" to 5" direction synthesizing a rna that is 5" to 3" Nucleotide sequence known as terminator on dna strand will stop rna transcription and release it, located on 3" end of dna strand. Dna is not packaged in chromosomes but sits in non-membrane bound nucleoid region.
