Document Summary

Auricles pouchlike structures on anterior of atria, slightly increases capacity of atrium to hold more blood. Coronary sulcus marks boundary between atria and ventricles. Anterior interventricular sulcus is on anterior surface of heart and marks boundary between right and left ventricles on anterior surface of heart. Posterior interventricular sulcus marks external boundary between ventricles on posterior side of heart. Right atrium receives blood from superior vena ceva, inferior vena ceva, and coronary sinus. Inside of anterior wall is rough due to tough pectinate muscles. interatrial septum - divides atria. Contains fossa ovalis (used to be foramen ovale) Tricuspid valve- blood passes through right atrium to right ventricle through the tricuspid valve. Right ventricle inside made of ridges of cardiac muscle fibers called trabeculae carneae. Trabeculae carneae help carry conduction system of heart. Cusps of tricuspid valve connected to cone shaped trabeculae carneae (papillary muscles) by tendon like chords called chordae tendonae. Interventricular septum separates right and left ventricles.
