The amount of gene products from an organism depends on condiions and signals, so the gene expression is regulated so that the right products are present at the right ime and in the right amount. If we suspect that a speciic gene plays an important role in the embryonic development of the fruit ly drosophilia; To idenify which embryonic cells or issues express a gene by looking at where the produced mrna is found during development in the intact organism (in situ) Development of microarray techniques: made it possible to assess the gene expression levels of thousands of genes at once, based on the base-pair interacions and binding of complementary strands of nucleic acids.
