Document Summary

The cell cycle: idenify that cell division is an important cellular process, compare prokaryoic binary ission and eukaryoic mitosis, examine how chromosomes move during mitosis, understand how the progression through the cell cycle is a regulated process. The ability for a pre-exising cell to give rise to another cell is due to the regulated process of cell division. All of these essenial elements necessary to reproduce cells are found in the prokaryoic cell. These cells are capable of making exact copies of their genomes and then segregaing one copy of each genome to each of two daughter cells. The process of cell division in prokaryotes requires that idenical geneic material is distributed amongst daughter cells. In prokaryotes, the process of cell division is a form of asexual reproducion that is oten referred to as binary ission. The process of cell division in prokaryotes is iniiated when the dna of the bacterial chromosome is the inside of the plasma membrane.
