Reality: slaves had no rights, lives would have been easier to ally with suitors, how poet portrays them. Odysseus and penelope: interweaves lies and truth, does she recognize him, recognizes past description of him, both testing each other odysseus" intellectual match. Eurycleia and the scar: length and detail = credibility, harsh to her and threatens her not to reveal, odyssey: different kind of hero (not particularly honorable)
