Keep track of how much income an individual makes (ranks people in society) Ensure the mortality of romans ( making sure everyone is behaving well and those behaving badly are punished. Makes sure buildings are renovated when needed. Tribunes (in between the consul and the aristocracy) Only get to sit in the senate when the senate is talking about something that has to deal with the people. Behave in the best interest of the people = if not they die, disappear, or get kicked out of office. In charge of foreign policy and foreign relations.
