Interpersonal communication and the internet: rely less on face to face networks, we spend a lot of time via mediated channels, when we communicate, we only see an avatar or profile picture, we spend less time face to face with people than we used to, social media pushes notifications to your mobile devices, contacting with more people, but know less about each individual, when communicating digitally, you can"t see body language cues and adjust your message accordingly, online gaming, dating, etc, online you can recreate yourself and choose who you want to be, loneliness and depression increase with online communication, except if you already have a social anxiety problem, in this case, loneliness and depression decreases, people who have find face to face problems are able to communicate better online, closeness can be developed online, you can develop a close emotional bond with someone online, spending time with family and friends is still a #1 priority.
